Hymns of Hallownest is a mod for Friday Night Funkin’ inspired by Hollow Knight, immersing players in Hallownest in rhythm battles instead of direct combat. In the game, you not only play rhythmic notes to the music but also move through areas, encounter characters, and unlock charms to support later songs.
Hymns of Hallownest: Through The Ruins In Song
Hymns of Hallownest puts players in the role of Vessel Boyfriend, wielding a Melodic Shell to confront familiar enemies in the Hollow Knight world through music. Instead of being divided into separate stages, the game connects battles with a journey through the ruined areas of Hallownest. You start in Dirtmouth, then gradually unlock more paths, arenas, and new interaction points as you complete each song. In addition to rhythmic notes, the game uses a Soul Meter as a secondary system. When you maintain a good rhythm, this meter increases and creates effects based on the charms you've equipped.
Charms and Overworld Progression
After each song, players receive Geo to use as they progress further in the game. At Sly’s shop, you can purchase additional charms or power-ups to make later battles easier to control. Charms don’t change the entire rules of the game, but they make a significant enough difference for players to consider before entering more difficult battles.
How to Play
When entering Hymns of Hallownest, you will move through the overworld and enter rhythm battles when you encounter new confrontation points or areas. The goal is to complete each song to continue progressing, earn Geo, and better prepare for later stages using the charm system.
